South Sudan Humanitarian crisis: UNMISS and peace monitors inspect scene where aid workers were killed

 

JUBA, Mar 29 (Jonglei Times)-A convoy of protection forces from the UN mission in South Sudan, together with ceasefire monitors inspected the incident location where six humanitarian staff from a local organization were murdered over the weekend along the Juba-Pibor road.

 

According to a statement seen by Jonglei Times on Tuesday, the integrated team from UNMISS Human Rights, JMEC, and CTSAMM was met by local security forces of the Anti-Poaching Unit at Bandigilo National Park road Junction.

The statement further said the team was taken directly to the scene where the ambush took place killing six humanitarian workers. The victims included three South Sudanese and three Kenyans.
The investigation team found that the ambush took place on the Juba-Pibor road approximately 3.4km from Badingilo National Park.

The ambush is the latest of several attacks on humanitarian workers in the country.
In February, South Sudan government and UN agencies declared famine in parts of South Sudan, where one million people are on the brink of starvation.
